"I'm driven by both a sense of pride in my community as well as a sincere desire to find beauty in every moment. As the survivor of four open heart surgeries, I have a daily reminder that every moment on this earth should be cherished. And as a lifelong resident of the Fox Valley, I'm honored to capture images that provide value to my community." - Drew Pertl

Arts & Drafts - Sheila Newenham

We're kicking off the 2020 season of Arts & Drafts with local nature photographer Sheila Newenham. Join us on Thursday, January 16th and view her exhibit of beautiful, natural photography capturing both wildlife and our natural environment.

https://www.exploringnaturephotos.com/ https://www.facebook.com/exploringnaturephotography/

Artist Statement: "I hope to connect people to nature by sharing my passion for wildlife and wild places. By bringing the individual, emotional and sentient side of our natural world to viewers, I can broaden an appreciation and experience of the wild. I want my art to show you something you’ve never seen before or to make you think about something in a new way and for it to stay with you when you leave." Sheila Newenham is a nature and wildlife photographer based out of DuPage County, Illinois. She started her photography journey as a way to memorialize her travel adventures and experiences. Over time, she honed her skills and her images began to have an impact on viewers, transporting them to the moment. Sheila is drawn to the personality and character in wild animals and wild places. Capturing those feelings to share with others invigorates her. Conservation photography has now become her driving ambition. Her images have earned local and international honors, are licensed for use in art and on websites and are found in both public and private collections. She exhibits regularly at various suburban art venues.

Arts & Drafts - Ken Simonsen

For our September edition of Arts & Drafts, we welcome Ken Simonsen of Psymonsen Studios to the taproom for a brand new exhibit of his killer airbrush artwork. We'll have a gallery of Ken's eye-catching and mindbogglingly surreal works displayed along our walls, and Ken will be available to discuss his art while doodling away at the Artist's Table.

Speaking of doodling, we'll have our coasters available to sketch on, so bring your favorite drawing utensils. Feel free to buy, sell, and trade your creations with other artists. All ages and skill levels welcome! We'll pick our favorites and post them in our Arts & Drafts Facebook gallery.

Fire & Smoke BBQ Company will be serving up their mouth-watering BBQ starting around 5pm, so get in early for some bites before they're gone.

About the Artist:

"My name is Ken Simonsen and I’ve been airbrushing since 1988. I launched my official art career as the Art Director of Pool & Billiard Magazine, creating numerous cover and editorial illustrations in addition to magazine layout and design for several national publications.

Beginning in the mid-90s, I began freelancing as an illustrator/designer while mastering digital illustration via Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.

In 2001, I returned to my airbrushing roots and opened a studio in Elgin, IL, painting everything from motorcycles and helmets to cars, trucks, guitars, and murals, and even the occasional airplane.

In 2012, I brought my airbrush skills to the canvas and started to show my work at local galleries.

My work has appeared in several publications, including “Airbrushing 101” and “The Airbrush Bible.” I am also a founding member of the non-for-profit “Oddball Art Labs,” devoted to expanding and promoting the arts in the greater Chicagoland area."

NOTE: While we are family friendly, all children must remain seated with an adult for their safety and the comfort of our guests. Food truck schedule subject to change.
